A Mid-Autumn Festival that is anything but mid.

Written by an Honest Agent
Reunion. That is the theme of this year's Mid-Autumn Festival. Come enjoy the lantern displays illuminating Gardens by The Bay with your family and friends and check out their other fun activities!
As soon as I heard that the festival is free, I was eager to check out the installations, performances and definitely the marketplace.
The Garden by The Bay Mid-Autumn Festival runs from 6 pm to 10 pm daily until 11 September. To help you plan your visit, here is our Must-See guide! What We Saw: Light Display:

As a homage to the Chinese myth "Flight to the Phoenix", this display depicts hundreds of beautiful birds paying tribute to the Phoenix's generosity during a drought. Although I am not an artistic person, this installation is a feast for the eyes and looks amazing up close.

The light exhibition Joyous Reunion was captivating, allowing people to lepak with the 12 zodiac animals as they enjoyed mooncakes and lanterns

You can also get some Instagram-worthy pictures with Colourful Blossoms. You better chiong to get your pictures before it gets too crowded! If you’re going with your partner, it’s the perfect place for romantic pictures!

Following that, we have The Colours of Daily Life, first displayed at the Seoul Lantern Festival in 2021, a traditional Korean paper called hanji is used to make the lanterns. It was very cute leh - the animal family laughing and smiling at each other gave it a homely feel.

In the Five Blessings display, five tigers which represent Joy, Health, Love, Longevity, and Peace. These were created by female inmates from the Yellow Ribbon Project. I found it to be interesting and pretty though some people commented that they didn't look much like tigers, and I agree abit lah.
Performances & Activities:
What’s a celebration without singing and dancing sia? Enjoy an array of performances to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, as live outdoor staging makes a return this year!

I managed to catch the concert of Two Four & Six Fusions. In the field, the breezy wind gives a cosy and tranquil feel to the melodious performances.
Seating is limited, but if you feel like sitting on the grass, then you should bring your mat as the field can be quite muddy.
Other performances to look forward to include:
Singapore Chinese Theatre Dance (2 & 10 September)
Dicapella Dizi Ensemble (3 September)
Jumpstart (4 September)
Tok Tok Chiang (11 September)

Last but not least, the Marketplace returns this year! Go and makan the tasty food with your loved ones! There are even some pop-up favourites such as Vadai King and Ramly Burger!
Most of the stalls had reasonable prices, and queues moved quickly. However, if you plan on visiting the more popular stalls, you might have to place your order and return after 5 to 10 minutes.

This is the Spicy Seaweed Potato Twist ($4) I bought from Potato Twist Dino Chicken. When the spicy and seaweed flavour mixes with the texture of the potato, it tastes damn shiok!

Another thing which I liked about the event was that, unlike most events, they provided seating areas for patrons to enjoy their food.
I loved the festival, and I strongly recommend you bring your friends and family to it to enjoy it.
Honest Opinion

“Colourful and Beautiful” - 4/5
With many captivating light installations and food options, I enjoyed Gardens by The Bay's Mid-Autumn Festival.
It would have been better if the Flight to The Phoenix had been placed at the Supertree Grove with the other installations rather than having to walk to the other end just to see it.
It could have been more engaging by having more activities for the public to participate in, such as a games stall. There was only Korean Lantern Making which is only available on weekends and has limited spots.
Those of you planning on attending can do so from 27 August to 11 September, 6pm to 10pm every day.
How to get there:
By Car
Parking is available at Bayfront Plaza carpark & Main Entrance / The Meadow / Satay by the Bay car parks.
By Bus
Take 400 to the Gdns By The Bay(03371).
By MRT
From Bayfront MRT Station (CE1/DT16) - Take Exit B, follow underground linkage, cross Dragonfly Bridge or Meadow Bridge, and you're in Gardens by the Bay
