Orh Nee desserts that are damn yammy(read as Yummy)

Written by Y.S. Chia

These days themed restaurants are everywhere.

Want Matcha? Got Matchaya! Want Durian? Got Durian Lab Cafe!

Want Garlic themed? Got Mad for Garlic!

What many may not know, however, is that our traditional treats are also in on the action.

At Whisking Bakes, the humble Orh Nee is the star.

The store, at 466 Crawford Ln, #01-08, Singapore 190465 opens from 12 pm to 10 pm on Tuesday to Friday(To midnight on Saturday and 6 pm on Sunday) and sells a range of Orh Nee desserts.

They even have Taro Lattes!

"Wah must be damn filling since Orh Nee is known for being thick and goopy" - I hear you say.

No lah, I don't think so, but I'll let you read on to find out.

What We Ordered:

My friend and I are both Orh Nee fans, so we ordered quite a bit.

We were graced first with our Taro lattes(6.50 each)- one hot and one cold.

The Hot Taro Latte($6.50) was like a warm hug. It had your familiar Orh Nee flavour and its creamy- but not thick sia.

The Cold Taro Latte($6.50) was surprisingly light and slightly sweet, with bits of yam providing an interesting change of texture.

Then, we tried the star of the show - the Orh Nee Tarts(5 pc)($7.00). Honestly right, the Orh Nee tarts are like pineapple tarts that melt in your mouth, just with Orh Nee lor. Haiya, I wish there was more for the price though.

Last but not least, is the Taro Mochi Swiss Roll($5.50). The cake was a bit denser than your usual swiss roll; the taro flavour was on point. The mochi was sweet, soft and chewy. Swee lah, I felt like I got 2 treats for one price.

Location & Service

If your looking for a peaceful place to lepak Whisking Bakes is a solid choice. The cafe aesthetic is lowkey, simple decor with hints of colour - especially purple, while K-pop hits of yesteryear play in the background.

Service-wise the staff are warm and friendly too

My only quip is struggling to find the place from Lavendar MRT but I think that one is due to ICA cordoning off areas rather than Whisking Bakes' location.

Honest Opinion:

Pretty Yammy(Or Pretty & Yammy) - 4 / 5

Whisking Bakes is the place for Taro lovers and people who haven’t converted(to like Taro I mean) should go kaypoh too.

Their desserts and drinks are sibei good, and you don’t feel as stuffed as eating 4- I mean 2 bowls of Orh Nee.

You can jio Orh-Nee haters along too and if they don’t wanna convert, no problem, no problem… I mean you can get non Orh Nee desserts too.

My recommendations would be the Hot Orh Nee latte and the Taro Mochi Swiss Roll. Wanna check out Whisking Bakes? Visit them at 465 Crawford Lane #01-08 from 12 pm to 10 pm on Tuesday to Friday, till midnight on Saturday or 6 pm on Sunday. They’re closed on Mondays.
