New additions like Nic & Tom's Sesame Buns make a delicious entrance to join the ranks of old time favourites like Tuckshop Rice.

If you've been on the Internet the last week or so, you've probably seen the hype for Tom & Nic Eatery's Dine For FREE promotion. The promotion was to commemorate the reopening of the eatery, which was a favourite amongst many at their previous location in Serangoon.

The promo which lasted from 27-29 July, went viral and saw lines of hungry visitors - included.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of time to get themselves down to eat their fill during the promotion. That said many are interested in finding out whether it's as good as they remembered. Some are also considering heading down for a meal.

If that’s the case, look no further for here’s our review of our experience dining there.

What We Ordered:

Our first dish was the Golden Roll($5.90). This Ngoh Hiang had a crispy exterior, savoury filing with actual prawns and nuts and a honey sauce that accompanied it well.

The pricey Swirly Intestines($9) look nothing like their menu counterpart but it's reasonable given the crowd. These were chewy and bursting with flavour while the chilli provided a refreshing spicy kick.

The Iceberg Lettuce($6.90) is a dish to remember. Served in a fragrant homemade sauce - which I suspect was the oyster sauce, it was sweet and salty. The crispy bits added a nice texture with the chilli’s spice topping off an overall compelling dish.

Nic & Tom Sesame Buns($3.90 Each) were a fun self-assembly adventure. Crispy fried buns were topped with surprisingly sweet sesame seeds. The pork was juicy and flavourful, onions - crunchy.

We then had the humble Tuckshop rice($1.90) which is limited to 1 serving per dine-in customer. The fried egg wasn’t runny to my disappointment but the soy-sauced-based rice tasted savoury, especially complimented by its crunchy pork lard.

We were then graced with our final dish, Large Intestine Mee Sua($6.90). The broth was salty but the noodles were the smoothest I’ve ever tasted. The chewy intestines make a return with juicy meatballs too.

To wash it all down, we had opted for a Honey Lemon($2.80) - which was sweet and a Plum Drink($2.80) which was sweet and sour.

Location & Service:

Aside from a few decorations, the store design is minimal with black and white walls and furniture. An arched wall greets customers sitting further in.

Seating wise it feels a little cramped, as tables of four were split into 2 tables for 2 without separating them. Hopefully, this was the situation only for the promo days.

Service-wise the staff were tired given it's the first day of the promotion, but I have heard they have since rebounded.

Honest Opinion:

New location, Same Great Quality - 4.5/5

When asked about considering marketing, the owner's Nic & Tom said they’d rather get people to try their food… and try you should.

I’m sure their promo has helped spread the word about their food, it's delicious, it's most affordable and as some old customers have remarked “Still as good as they remember”.

Up till now I still can’t get over the perfectly fried Sesame Buns($3.90 Each) and savoury & spicy Iceberg lettuce($6.90).

While some of the dishes might be a bit steep price-wise, and the tables a bit cramped on crowded days, Nic & Tom Eatery send a resounding message “They’re back and as good as ever”.
