You may not dress like a hypebeast, but who says you can't eat to be one.

Being a Hypebeast or hypebae is damn expensive, but we've all confirm wondered

"Actually ah, what if I roll up in a Bape Hoodie, Off white joggers and Supreme Slides.

Will the cai fan auntie expect me to buy fish? Would I look like my mid-life crisis uncle?

Would someone call me a try hard?

Sorry ah, I'm not the internet, cannot answer your question, but what if the first step to being hypebeast - is what we eat? Introducing SuperCurry - A hypebeast curry store.

The store at 21 Telok Ayer Street sells an array of Hypebeast curry and your typical sides - but don't worry, it's not your hypebeast merchandise pricing. In fact right, all prices are kept at an affordable fixed rate(given its in the CBD).

What We Ordered:

The store is at a quaint Muslim friendly coffeeshop. We came around 11 am and while there was no queue, every few minutes got customers.

Our mains were the “Hyped” Fried Chicken Curry Rice($7.80) and the Braised Chicken Curry Rice($7.80). We also got their Sambal Sotong & Tempeh ($2.70) The portion sizes were damn generous - can fight with those Japanese curry stores instead of your usual hawker plates.

The fried chicken from the Fried Chicken Curry Rice($7.80) was damn shiok, biting into the savoury pieces I could hear a crunch KFC could only dream of. The curry tasted creamy while

the light omelette provided a nice contrast and made me feel less guilty, you know.

Meanwhile the braised chicken from the Braised Chicken Curry Rice($7.80) was flavourful but abit too sweet - I don’t think I would finish it if it was just me. The Taukee was equally crunchy, while the vegetables were thankfully less oily than the usual curry rice side.

The Sambal Sotong & Tempeh is not something to play play one. Its got a lot of chewy sotong and okay tempeh, but the sambal is sibei spicy. If you love your Mala Da La, this is for you.

Location & Service:

The store is very convenient to get to, just a 5 minute walk from Telok Ayer Station. That said the queue gets damn long during office lunch hours. I counted at least 12 people in the queue at one time sia,

Service-wise can improve abit lah. I went to order and they ignored me for 10 minutes to fry more chicken before taking my order. I understand that to take orders of fried chicken need to have fried chicken but like I feel a simple” Give us 10 minutes” would do.

I mean they just started selling last week so of course got some kinks to iron out lah. On the bright side - long queues might mean fresher chicken, swee!

Honest Opinion:

Curry worth the hype

For the flavour, portion and steady price - Super Curry is a great option for your curry fix ,especially if you work in the CBD. No need to worry about a sudden hole in your wallet when all the prices are fixed.

Honestly right, unless you’re very hungry I think you don't need buy the sides, just a plate of Fried Chicken Curry Rice($7.80) can put you in a food coma. Do note that the queue is sibei long during lunch hours so plan accordingly. You can check out Supercurry at 121 Telok Ayer St, Singapore 068590, from 10 am to 4 pm.(Until 8 p.m. from Sept 1 Onwards)
