You may have had great coffee but have you had a coffee creation brewed by Ryan Tan? Ryan Tan is the Siphon Coffee Champion, 3-time Singapore Barista Champion, 3-time Singapore Latte Art Champion & ASEAN Barista Champion 2013.

I bet you haven’t and neither have I.

That's why we recently visited Curious Palette at Prinsep Street.

The 200-seat cafe was opened by him and the same folks behind Stranger’s Reunion, one of the pioneer “Hipster” cafes in Singapore, known for delightful coffee and waffles. Curious Palette houses both a coffee roaster and an events space on the second floor. They serve your typical western lunch menu with soups, salad, light bites, waffles, and desserts.

What we ordered:

Given the store’s great record with coffee, I ordered the White Magic($7.50). It’s made with fresh espresso and milk and then bottled. Aromatic and smooth, it's something I’d never regret ordering.

Our first dish on the menu was Spam Fries(16.50)! They're not for everyone, but they're delicious. That spam was tasty! It was fried to perfection, with a crisp exterior and soft on the inside. The kaffir lime sauce was really good and went well with the dish! The only downside to this meal is perhaps, that the price ($16.50) seemed a tad expensive.

Next, we have the Cray Roll ($24.50). Served albeit a bit too cold for my liking (I was hoping that it could be warmer). I loved the brioche bun, it had a soft, buttery quality; complemented by that gloriously rich stuffing of chunks of crayfish together with Ebikko and fried capers, served with a pile of crispy golden shoestring fries. One of our friends, however, commented, that it’s too ‘fishy’ for tastebud and not for her, so those who have a phobia of ‘fish’.

Ryan’s past cafes have dished out great waffles and Curious Palette is no different. At Curious Palette, we went with the Berry Ricotta Hotcake ($18.90). The hotcake was moist and thick, generously sprinkled with seeds, and drizzled with a decent amount of delicious berry sauce. It also had a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream on top which complements both the hotcake and the warm weather outside.

Location & Service:

There are lots of communal tables and a lovely nature-intertwined interior. It borders on a cosy, rustic charm and is greeted by their beautifully curated space within.

Natural lighting and beautiful paintings make for a relaxing and cosy place that is great for a break during your day. It’s perfect for Food Photographers too! Waiting time wise the food came in around 35 minutes.

Their team though young, are very prompt and quick when we called for service, well-mannered and constantly check on our experience with the food.

Our Honest Opinion:

My curiosity has been pleasantly answered - 4/5

This was our first time in this café and the atmosphere was great. Service was fast, but we found that their food was hit and miss but wasn't a big deal because it was still good. My recommendations would be the Magic White(7.50) or the Berry Ricotta Hotcake ($18.90).

We had a wonderful time today and would enjoy going back soon!
